The Oysterville Sewing Circle
by Susan Wiggs
There’s something about books set on the beach that has always hooked me - maybe growing up in landlocked Iowa? This story of Caroline, a former designer who moved home to Oysterville, Washington with the two children she became mother to overnight when her best friend died was no exception. I was invested in their story, however, it seemed at times to move too fast and I couldn’t stay invested in the characters as a result. Adding in the social commentary on domestic abuse felt contrived throughout much of the novel. Ultimately, I enjoyed the story between Caroline and her family, as well as the romance that brewed.
