The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix

3.0

Lynette Tarkington survived a massacre 22 years ago making her a final girl. She has gotten by all these years with a support group of 5 other final girls. But someone finds out about this group of final girls and the horror begins all over again.

Where do I begin with this book. I liked it exponentially more than The Southern Girls Guide To Slaying Vampires which I really was not a fan of. I was so interested about the "final girls"/sager drama and how this book would be different. It truly is nothing like Sager's novel and arguably even a different genre. This is marketing as a horror novel but I was not scared or creeped out at any point while reading.

The premise of this book is amazing. Hendrix gathered all the cinematic horror films we "know and love" and turned them into his own. He was crafty and named his characters after the actresses who played the role in the real life movie. Confused? Me too. For example, Panhandle Meat Hook was Hendrix' version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Sally was played by Marilyn. So in Hendrix's world or horrors, Marilyn was the main character in Panhandle Meat Hook.

Although this book was creative and even genius, it was a dud for me. I wasn't creeped out or even invested at all. I feel like it could have been a 5 star book but it fell flat for me with how convoluted the story became.
