Confronting Contagion: Our Evolving Understanding of Disease by Melvin Santer

2.0

I'm not going to pretend like I didn't learn anything from this book, but it was extremely boring to read. Absolutely artless in its storytelling and way too many direct quotes. This made the book lack fluidity of any kind. it would have been much better if the author wasn't afraid to paraphrase.

My other issues was with how slow the book was. Some chapters cold have been condensed and some scientists and research could have been omitted. I didn't need to know four scientists had the same idea or read their direct quotes of the same idea. There are a few other ways this could have been executed better.

I see a lot of people saying it's for academics. Well, I'm an academic. This book is still unenjoyable. Great information, terrible prose.
