Such an important read especially if you’re a person who is looking into a career that deals with social issues and systemic racism/discrimination. While I knew that the government had a part in the segregation of black people in this country, I had no clue how local, state, and federal government corroborated together to uphold the belief that African American people were second class citizens. And because of this belief, it still haunts and materialize in African American’s day to day lives. I’m usually not a big history girl so I was decently surprised when I couldn’t put this book down
