I took my sweet time to finish this book and it was worth the slow read. A beautiful end to a beautiful duology.

The story takes off right where it left in the first book. The plot took interesting turns and turned out to be better than I expected. All the character arcs were so wonderfully done that it makes my heart swell with love and grief and hope and melancholy. Though Lazlo, the sweetest of the sweetest, was not as much in the spotlight as in the first books, the other arcs made up for it. Newer character arcs- Kora and Nova- were so heart wrenching and made me misty eyed. Genuinely became one of my favorites book series. Writing was as beautiful as the first book, if not more.

I know the pacing was off at times, took a slower pace in between and sped in the last few pages. I know some things were too convenient for plot's sake. I know. And this duology has my whole heart not despite it but because of it. You will notice that many favorite books are favorites  because of their flaws. That's the beauty of it.

I also love, love, loved the little Easter eggs for Daughter of Smoke and Bone readers.

Overall, a great duology and wonderfully beautiful characters. Read it slow and savour the journey.
