First half of this book had me thinking it was going to be a 2 star read. The characters were flat, the storyline was getting repetitive, insta-love was annoying, the unscientific scientific research, the random trauma, and the predictable storytelling. I WASN’T INTO IT.

BUT! The second half really helped. The characters were more likeable and human, albeit the dialogue still wasn’t the greatest. The plot twists WERE predictable, but not all of them. There were a few really good surprises thrown in there that I enjoyed. The ending was a great twist.

I liked that even though it was a tad repetitive it was a super easy read. I felt like I could whip through it and I love it when that happens. I also loved the Bella-Swan-New-Moon-time-elapse pages. So dramatic. Loved it.

I’m interested to learn more about the magic system and the world beyond the prison. The rebellion be crazy. (Also Kiva is such a hypocrite getting mad at JAREN for keeping secrets from HER! GIRL, he’s gonna be so mad at you. I can’t wait.)

I’m hopeful the second and third book keep pace with how this one ended. Fingers crossed! 🤞
