It had potential. The FL’s maturity was at rock bottom at the start of the novel so her character arc could have been phenomenal if Kleypas had bothered with it. Similarly, the ML had a load of childhood baggage to work through. Again, Kleypas didn’t seem to bother with it. Instead, we ended on a weird “what if she dies by childbirth” scare. I felt like Kleypas didn’t know what story she was trying to tell *or* if she did know, then she didn’t realize she’d written an entirely different story.

Didn’t work for me. Oh and the pacing was also crap.
