Fundamentalism: A Very Short Introduction by Malise Ruthven

informative tense slow-paced

3.25

An interesting read about fundamentalism. I had to read this for a religion and violence course. As someone who has never even heard the word fundamentalism being used, it proved to teach me a lot on the topic. I like how the author, Ruthven, maintained a largely unbiased tone and was just dumping information which was supported by a plethora of examples. Yet he never called out religion itself, he showed that it had a place in society but doesn't mean we can overlook the negative effects and the deep rooted evil occurring under its guise. It was helpful to have the plethora of examples to support each idea but the ideas could have been better divided into subsections to highlight them in my opinion. It starts off quite dry but gets more interesting as you get more acquainted with the topic.
