The first book in this series, Catch a Ghost, ended with Tom choosing another partner in order to keep Prophet safe from his bad partner luck and Prophet staying away from Tom to keep him off the radar with his enemies. Seriously, in my head I knew that there would be a big, sexy reunion for these two when they finally got back together, but I wasn’t thrilled with them quitting each other so easily. I’m never happy when my two main characters walk away from each other. But I was willing to go the long haul with this series, that’s how sure I was that it would end up being a winner for me.
It’s been four months since Tom and Prophet split up. Tom is now partnered with Cope, training and running small missions with EE, but he can’t keep his mind off of Prophet. He sends him emails everyday, just trying to get him to understand why he chose another partner and hopefully get through to him. Prophet has officially quit EE and now takes black ops jobs that keep off the grid and away from home. Before taking yet another mission he decides to finally sit down and read all Tom’s emails. That’s when he makes the decision to stop running, from Tom and from what they could be together. So when he finds out that Tom’s beloved aunt is smack dab in the middle of the path of an oncoming hurricane he heads out with supplies and goes to help the only family Tom cares about.
Tom has the same idea, he disobeys orders and heads to Louisiana. That’s when these two collide, and I do mean that. Right in the middle of the wind and rain of a category 3 hurricane Tom and Prophet reunite in one of the hottest scenes I’ve read in a while. Holy hell, but these men are ravenous for each other after four months apart. Their lust is off the charts. While I might have been a little doubtful of their attachment to each other in book one, I was proven wrong after reading their reunion scene. I think time apart actually helped these men to terms about what they mean to each other.
While book one was all about this couple wading through Prophet’s past, this story goes back to Tom’s hometown and gets him and Prophet stuck in the middle of a murder investigation. All of Tom’s ghosts from his past come at these two fast and furious as they hide out in the bayou, wrestle alligators and finally come to realize that they are never going to be able to stay away from each other. Everything I wanted them to do in book one they finally do here. There are a lot of sexy times, they can’t seem to keep their hands and lips to themselves, but they also start to talk. There is a vulnerability between them now that wasn’t there before and it makes them a stronger couple. There is still so much that needs to be said, but at least they are opening up and learning to trust. I love the fact that there is always this need to keep the other safe. Whatever they have to do, whenever they have to do it, it’s just now they are finally figuring out that the best way to do that might be by staying together.
They are helped out by Mick and Blue ( how I missed their book I have no idea, but I plan on reading Free Falling next) and of course Cillian. While I’m not a huge Cillian fan, mainly because of all the flirting between him and Prophet, I am off the charts excited that he’s going to be paired up with another of Prophet’s old teammates, Mal. Their book, Dirty Deeds, should be out sometime in January. As you can tell, Ms. Jakes has sucked me into this world. I’m officially hooked. I love a good romantic suspense with strong male leads and you can’t get much stronger than these two.
