Rowdy has lived his life on the premise that everything happens for a reason and that it will always work itself out. His freshman year of college "the one" broke his heart so he walked away from college and a pro-football career to pursue his passion - art. Phil found him in a run down tattoo shop and brought him to Denver where he flourished; found his found family and lived his best bachelor life. That is until Salem showed up as the new shop manager. Salem was Rowdy's best friend when they were kids. She gave Rowdy peace in his life, encouraged him in his art, she was his rock. Until he was 15 and she left home; left him. Salem couldn't take her domineering and hypocritical father so she ran as far as could at 18. Ten years later and all her running brought her right back to Rowdy.
I really enjoyed Rowdy and Salem. I liked that it wasn't' quick and easy. As they reconnected they learned things about the other and what they missed in the last 10 years that had them questioning everything. I loved the chase - that Salem went after what she wanted. Also loved that the tables turned and she took a second to consider everything once she learned more. I would have had issues if that didn't bother her a bit. I loved Rowdy, how he did things his way, took his time to get to where he needed to be. I loved how hard he loved and how he just wanted those he loved to stay. Broke my little heart. So while I loved Rowdy & Salem, I felt like too much of their story was dealing with tragic things that happened around them - to others aka Asa and Poppy. I get it is a set up for future books but it felt like too much not about Salem & rowdy. But overall I loved this one. Can't get enough of the Marked Men.
