The Age of Miracles by Ellen Gilchrist

Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.
Read the first four stories, only liked one (“Madison at 69th, A Fable”, about grown kids trying to prevent their mom from getting a face-lift; funny and sweet). I haven’t read Gilchrist before, and the 2/4 stories involving Rhoda (I guess one of her established characters) I really didn’t like. All stories heavily involve Southern culture, usually in the 80s-90s. Also themes of aging and love while aging, family and generations. The writing style is very conversational:
I woke up in a really good mood. An orgasm is an orgasm and it’s a hell of a lot better than Xanax.
