Water Shall Refuse Them by Lucie McKnight Hardy

4.0

This creepy and dread filled book was beautifully paced. The slow reveal of tragedy comes just moments after I work suspect it myself, but pray it won't be that, only for the chilling effect to realise yes it was to wash over me.

Although written from the perspective of a teenager, Lucie McKnight Hardy doesn't dumb down anything or write in a way that would be patronising. In fact, the power with which she observes the tense family dynamics unravelling in real time, was so powerfully uncomfortable that it made me run cold.

I really enjoyed this and will definitely seek out more from Lucie McKnight Hardy. Should've known really given that Dead Ink Books are such an awesome publisher!

I listened to this audiobook on an Audible trial. I won't be keeping it. Support your local library!
