I’m going to be thinking about this book forever.

I’ve read wildly differing opinions on this book, and I think what it boils down to is this: where are you in life? Have you experienced the wild hormone-fueled ride that is perimenopause? I’m in the middle of it, and this book, with its cringey narrator who I wanted to tell at least once to GET IT TOGETHER, made me feel seen. The impending feeling of the end of everything, your body giving out, even the waking up at 2 a.m.. That being said, I’m probably not going to redecorate a motel room. Probably.

The most moving part, to me, is the chapter in which our cringey unnamed narrator texts her friends to ask them what the good things are about menopause. They flood her with messages of being able to stop being agreeable, stop being for other people and starting to feel authentic. A doctor says that the shock to the body helps it prepare for the next stage. All of this is very soothing to me at this moment in my life.

(Seriously though, narrator, get it together.)
