Willa Cather was an unknown writer to me before this book was recommended by one of my online friends on GR. The genre is historical fiction as well as a classic.
I love stories about the pioneers of the West; the strong people who went seeking land hoping to prosper and make a better life. The writing is simple and blends perfectly with the Swedes and other people who migrated from Europe in hopes of owning and farming land in Nebraska. At less than 200 pages this was a quick read and a good escape into the era with a memorable main character. It is the first in a 3 part series, but the ending is satisfactory on its own.
