Beyond Reach by Karin Slaughter
5.0

The first Karin Slaughter book I picked up was Triptych. Then I quickly moved on to Fractured. As I read the synopsis for Undone, I realized I needed to go to the very beginning and start with the Grant County series. Let me tell you, I blew through this series one after another. However, this series is not for the faint of heart. It's gritty, and dark and cringe-worthy. And her characters are the epitome of flawed. I've read a lot of reviews where people haven't liked one character or another because of choices that they've made. But I think that's what is so great about this series. We're not supposed to agree with all of their choices or like it when they act like a pig or a jerk. The character development from Blindsighted all the way to Beyond Reach was fantastic.
SpoilerThat's why so many of us felt anger and grief when Jeffrey died. We felt robbed of his and Sara's happily ever after. I also read the letter on Karin's website explaining why she chose to go that direction. And I thought it was very brave of her to kill her protagonist in such a heartbreaking way, knowing that she might piss a lot of people off.

After I take a short break (and read some lighter stuff to soothe my soul), I will be picking up on the Will Trent series where I left off. And I'm quite sure that Ms. Slaughter will not disappoint!
