This was a nice instalment in the Death Before Dragons series. I have, obviously, read (and reviewed) the previous 5 books in the series and rated them all at three out of five stars. This book I am rating slightly above that. It is really pretty much the same as the previous books but in this book this rubbish on-off, maybe we should not see each other bla bla, between Val and Zav is finally over.

It is the couple Val and Zav that really makes these books fun to read. Not so much the romantic aspect, even though the romance part is not bad and not overdone, but they are a kick-ass couple and the dialogue between the arrogant dragon and Val, who “vexes his enemies”, are really fun to read.

The book continues the story from the fifth book but starts off with what, at first, looks like a bit of a side story with Nin’s grandfather. It however turns at that this him showing up ill is just the beginning and it quickly starts to tie in with the main story and the continuing battle for supremacy between the Stormforge and the, rather despicable, Silverclaw clan.

In between the beginning and the ending of the book there are a lot of the usual bantering between Val and her many friends, mundane and not so mundane problems to be resolved and, of course, plenty of action.

Overall, another good, light and entertaining read.
