Only Love Can Hurt Like This
by Paige Toon
I really loved this book. I found Wren very relatable and saw myself in her during various moments of her reflecting on her life. I also saw a lot of growth in her and moments when I’d usually want the FMC to have a backbone, I was able to get past because this author wrote Wren in a way that showed she’s understanding and forgiving but not a doormat. I’m Wren it’s a strength, not a weakness.
I also didn’t see that twist coming so the author took me by surprise!
It was SO CLOSE to be a 5 star read but this year I’m trying to be thoughtful with my ratings so because the epilogue just felt all over the place and I needed it to be dual pov so that we could get more character development from Anders, it’s a 4 star for me. The one chapter that was from Anders pov was strong and I think the author could have done more of that without risking her plot twist. Overall though this was a good first intro book for me to this author and I am looking forward to reading another!
