While the Ministry of Time was kind of entertaining, I struggled with the main character, who seemed to change her reactions/actions at the whim of the plot. There were some very real moments dealing with her family through which I felt the author’s strength and authenticity shine, but unfortunately those were few and far between. The last third of the book felt rushed. The romance was well developed but you do get sideswiped out of nowhere by a graphic sex scene in an otherwise chaste pairing . I liked the way the secondary and side characters were written and felt the author had a much stronger sense of their personalities than the main character’s.
Graphic: Cursing, Gun violence, Racial slurs, Racism, Stalking
Moderate: Misogyny, Panic attacks/disorders
Minor: Forced institutionalization
