Der Ball spielende Hund
by Agatha Christie
I know there are a few pacing issues and that the clues aren't all particularly fair (was I supposed to just know about phosphorus poisoning lol? Really cool plot device regardless... ) but I can subjectively ignore that because I adored the setting, I love Poirot and Hastings quarelling and because Agatha Christie's books are just such comfort books in general.
However, I'm not too sure how to feel about the ending -first of all a woman faking domestic abuse is not a plot point I'm comfortable with since there are so many femicides and cases of violence against women - I just hate that some readers will inevitably take this to undermine any such accusations a woman in their life might make... Apart from that: did Poirot just drive someone to commit suicide 😠I guess it makes sense, as he had been musing about the legality of his actions a few times before, but I just did NOT see that coming at all lmao
I also have to point out the xenophobia/racism against the poor greek guy! It's a ,,stuck-in-it's-time-element" for sure, but I was still rolling my eyes at all the unwarranted comments (even when describing the children TT).
