The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
5.0

The copy I own of The Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite physical books I own. It's one of the older printings and the pages are all yellowed and it's the perfect weight and the pages stay open just how I want them to without putting in too much effort. I decided to read The Cather in the Rye again because of how much I just love the feel of the book.

I haven't read The Catcher in the Rye for a couple years. Then it was for a class and I'm sure I didn't enjoy it or remember it as well solely based on the principle that I was assigned to read it in x amount of weeks. I had forgotten so much about the book. I had forgotten how much I love stream of consciousness writing and the characters Salinger crafted.

In addition to reading the novel, I also read one of Salinger's unpublished short stories about Holden's family, The Ocean is Full of Bowling Balls. It's written from the perspective of Vincent (DB Caulfield) about Kenneth Caulfield (later Allie Caulfield). It was beautiful and heartbreaking and gave so much more context to Holden and his struggles. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys The Catcher in the Rye.
