The Big Sleep
by Raymond Chandler
I wish I was the kind of person who could forget the all-over-the-place-sometimes-violent sexism present in this book, but I am not. Never mind that, I actually don't wish I was that kind of person. Call me a feminist with a bit of contempt if you please, but I will judge this novel for it. If I got a penny everytime Philip Marlowe complained about 'those women', I'd probably cover and surpass the market value of this novel.
Besides the sexism? It sure rains a lot, some parts were mildly clever, but nothing made me sit up straight in my seat with enthusiasm. I guess I just like my hard boiled a little more boiled in what concerns hatred towards women.
