I devoured this in a handful of sittings - been a while since a book has captured my attention so raptly. A man and his son travel a post-apocalyptic America of wildfires, ashen skies and as little trust among men as there are supplies to share. Their joint experience is harrowing, their bond the sole remnants of humanity in an otherwise desolate wasteland. McCarthy’s copy is intense, overflowing with melancholy and despondency. And yet you cannot tear yourself away from this father-son’s cross-country journey, living in hope that they find what they’re looking for.
(Even though, in your heart of hearts, you know there’s only one way this tale can possibly end.)
