Of Things by Michael Donhauser

3.5

This was my book for Liechtenstein in the read-around-the-world challenge; the poet is typically referred to as Austrian but was born and grew up in Liechtenstein and that's good enough for me.

I think this would be a great fit for someone who is an avid poetry reader and who likes poems with many layers to them, where you have to really think about what you've read. It wasn't always a great fit for me - there were verses or sections of each poem that caught me but other than The Larch Forest I found parts of each hard to get through. I'm not sure if some of that is the translation; this work is intensely focused on language, and that can be hard to do in poetry-in-translation.
