Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard
5.0
This is a novel I picked up because I really like Jackie Brown by Quesntin Tarantino, and I wanted to read the inspiration source. Both stories are different from one another, as in Jackie Brown the stewardess - Jackie Brown - is a black woman, while in Run Punch the stewardess - Jackie Burke - is white. One takes place in Los Angeles and another in Miami, and all this plays into shifts of the stories, in ways that seem like parallel lives lived in parallel universes.
This book centers more on Ordell Robbie and his life, though that also remains a bit murky, probably because you may have to read the previous book, which I'm not so keen on picking up. There are some parts that make sense in the end, but read like a strange detour as you start, such as the introduction of Big Guy. In the book the source of Ordell's "merch" is clearer, but also makes you wonder how hasn't he been caught earlier for it.
