The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
2.0
fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

This one starts with one of those framing stories about how the author came upon the story, which was very popular, back in the day, but which today seems unnecessary, drawn out and boring.  Once the story gets going, it does have some classic gothic vibes, but for me it didn't really work. The narrator is very certain in interpretation of what is going on and this made me quite certain in mine - I did not get the creeping uncertainty and unnerving dread I was hoping for.
Quite a disappointing listen.
