Our two protagonists, who were best friends/almost lovers as teens but who haven't talked in the 10+ intervening years, meet again for work-related reasons and almost immediately hop into bed with each other. Both protagonists are likable on their own, but I far preferred the first book in the series, because this one lacks plot/forward momentum. Very sexy times on page, but there's not much of a story; the focus is less on Gabe and Michelle's relationship and more on Gabe working through his issues about the overbearing family he felt he had to escape in order to forge his own identity and pursue his own professional goals. Leaving Michelle behind, too, felt like collateral damage, so it was hard to understand why, once the two got back together, why Gabe felt like they couldn't have something "real." The fanfic stuff seemed extraneous, rather than integral.
