The Chocolate Thief
by Laura Florand
Such a welcome break from all the dystopian thrillers I've been reading these past weeks. The Chocolate Thief is only the second book I've read that is set in Paris (the first being [b:Just One Day|12842115|Just One Day (Just One Day, #1)|Gayle Forman|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1348674290s/12842115.jpg|17992862]) and it's convinced me that I really need more Parisian books in my life! This one doesn't reduce you to a thousand broken pieces like Gayle Forman's novel does, but Laura Florand takes the same amount of care to craft her characters and illustrate the beauty and essence of the city.
Another similarity would be the whole American girl-French boy pairing which sounds hackneyed but works so well here. I like that Cade plays the confident businesswoman while Sylvain is more insecure of himself. It's not every book that we get to see the hot Parisian dude agonize over his awkward pimply phase.
There was an equal dusting of funny and tender moments and the whole thing just made me crave chocolate so the recommendations for stores included in the end was much appreciated.
