Two stars only because Murakami writes beautifully - Otherwise all the female characters were underdeveloped and very obviously made to satisfy a man’s ideal/fantasy (specially in their perspectives about sex). It was also rape apologetic at times.
The main character was quite annoying and also out of a male fantasy - he was trying to be the good guy while also being a “ladies man” but really he was just a jerk who continued to objectify women(when he mourns Naoko and just remembers when she gave him a bj, how the only thing he likes about her is her body and her touch and pretty much the same with Midori), disregard their feelings and capabilities and normalize rape (he doesn’t want to sleep with Midori because he is afraid he might rape her).
