Ramona Blue
by Julie Murphy
Continuing my YA kick, this was an intriguing story about a poor, queer teenager and her complicated but caring relationships with her partners, her sister and father, her mother, and her friends. I found Ramona a really relatable character, who does everything she can to support and care for those she loves, but eventually realizes that only she is trapping herself in small town Mississippi, and is finally ready to put herself on the “to care for” list. Julie Murphy has a great ability to write complex, realistic teen characters and I’ll be following her writing closely!
