Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor

5.0

Have you ever heard of The leopard people?? We'll neither did Sunny.

I've come to realize that if the book has Nnedi Okorafor's name on it I'm reading it. Why? Because she dares to explore fantasy and sci-fi through African literature.

Akata Witch explores the story of an albino girl- Sunny- who didn't know that she her family has a long history of being involved with the people who had magical powers called Leopard people.

I'm going to be frank with you. I read this book in a sitting and I squealed at least 5 times in anticipation of what was to come in the next chapters.

Sunny discovers she has magic powers and has to fulfill her destiny and fight off an ancient evil. With the help of two experienced leopard people ( I guess that's what Orlu and Chi Chi were called, hmm).

From riding a mystical train to becoming an apprentice to connecting with her spirit. Akata Witch is definitely going to keep you on your toes as you flip through every page.
