The magic I felt when first reading Powerless, it just wasn’t there for me with this book. I felt like all of this could have been condensed in to a novella. I wanted to DNF, but I love these characters so much, I just couldn’t do it and pushed through. But I was bored 75% of the time. I skimmed the majority of the book after the halfway point.
Now, to the books credit, I have been anticipating this book since reading Powerless in January, so I fear I may have overhyped it in my head. So, when it was something completely different than what I thought it would be, the disappointment set in.
But, the author herself, her writing grew and you could see that with this book. The writing was spectacular. And I love Kai and Pae so much which is why I stayed and kept reading. This book was all about our characters as they move past the events of the first book and I did love their growth. It just lacked action and adventure and that connection I felt with Powerless.
But, this is all just my opinion, if you go in this book just for the vibes, you will have a great time and probably love it. I need to stop going in with expectations and that is a me problem. 😂
