Oh my heart. The vicious cycle of violence is ever present in this book. My heart broke over and over and over again as the truth of what happened that awful night unfolded. About half way through this novel I realized I wish I had made a family tree because the more characters where introduced the more I realized how deeply routed and connected all of this was. I will say though, it was interesting that this assault was done to a female by a female, it is not a dynamic that is seen often but it doesn't mean it doesn't happen and exploring it offers a chance for people that experience "lesser occurring crimes" to feel represented. Not that it excuses Phoenix but to know that she was conceived via rape and then to commit rape herself brings a whole new level to the vicious cycle. My heart broke for every individual in this novel.
