Straight Outta Crawley: Memoirs of a Distinctly Average Human Being by Romesh Ranganathan

lighthearted slow-paced

2.0

It was sort of bad all the way through, but I was going to give it a pass for being kind of charming in how useless it is as a book, but then the ending was so incredibly lazy it lost its little charm points. I'm not particularly a fan of Romesh's comedy to begin with, not because it's too race/family/weight centred or any of the stuff he was complaining about in the book, mostly just didn't end up finding his standup funny, though I did enjoy him in taskmaster. So unfortunately a lot of the jokes in this fell flat and I was finding myself wishing Romesh's mom was doing the book instead. If we pretend this is a memoir as it's titled then it does a terrible job of keeping to a timeline and sharing impactful moments, it seems really small insignificant vignette's of Romesh's life a lot of the time, presumably because there's a funny story there, but unfortunately a lot of the time, not that funny. I do feel some kind of guilt not enjoying it as he did the audiobook and I felt like I just sat through 6 hours of conversation with a friend to then just be like "who cares mate", but the fact is it's just not a good memoir or book in my opinion and if this wasn't free with my library card I would've been pretty annoyed to spend money on it.
