The Day We Met by Rowan Coleman

4.0

This book brings us Claire. A strong independent woman. Raised her daughter Caitlin (20) alone for many years. Until she finally meets the love of her life in Greg. They marry and have a daughter together, Esther (3).

Sadly, then, Claire is diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimers. Her father suffered through this. She and her mother both know what to expect. She grapples with what she knows is coming (and hopes is slow to come).

At first it's gradual. Then she slides faster down the slippery slope. She can't leave the house alone (although she sneaks off anyway). She knows she is "supposed to" love Greg. Yet she feels awkward and uncomfortable with him. He provides her with a "Memory Book" to help her with memories.

I like the "mystery man" addition, but won't give too much away with that.

This book is a well written account of dealing with Alzheimers and both the love and hope and the sadness and despair that come with it.

Thank you Netgalley & Random House/Ballentine for my ARC copy. It was my pleasure to read it and give you my honest review!
