The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi
4.0

“If nobody sees you, are you still there?”
The Death of Vivek Oji started when Vivek's mother found his dead body at their front door. Upon wondering the cause of her son's death and in search for the truth, she uncovers that she had never knew who her son really was.
I felt teary eyed towards the end of the book but now that I am thinking about it as I am writing this review, I feel like I'm going to straight out cry right now. But no. I'm holding them back. HAHA.
The writing is so beautiful and so heartbreaking towards the end. It's just so painful. I can't even... The non-linear story line is very engaging and will keep you wanting to know more. The audiobook is amazing! There are a lot of narrators. I don't think I have experienced grief over the death of a person but I felt it here. This is a good depiction of themes in family, identity, and frienships.
The only reason this is not a five stars is that I wish there were more from Vivek.
