After Kin blew my fucking mind last winter (am I ever going to stop thinking of that one particular scene? Eight months out and the answer is no!) I was a bit afraid to go to Burke's other work. What if I had hyped him up to unfair expectations? What if his other interests in horror weren't my own? It's so hard to dig up something good in the horror community and I wasn't ready for disappointment.

Y'all I'm very pleased to realize that there's no disappointment to be had with Blanky. In fact, I think Burke might be a stronger author when he's working in miniature. There's a lot to enjoy about this little novella. We've got some creepy imagery, we've got some twists and turns, and best of all? The absolute best thing? It's not explained. There's not some long screed about why bad things happen to good people. It just does.

Not super happy about being freaked out by blankets, though. I didn't realize how much I very much did not need that in my life until just now.
