Reread: 3/5 stars. I originally read this in the late 1980s while in college. At the time, I found it scary and suspenseful. On this reread that my wife and I did as a buddy read, I found it disturbing on several levels but not nearly as scary as I remembered. I did discover that Mr. King writes about some strange perversions in the denizens of ‘Salem’s Lot that I did not recall from the initial read all those years ago!! Overall, it was suspenseful but not as much as I remembered and I’m not sure I enjoyed King’s writing style as much this time as I did the first time through.
