To Have and to Hoax
by Martha Waters
3.5/5 ⭐️
I had devoured this book until I got about halfway through it. The writing is really good—I definitely agree with the Bridgerton comparison! It feels modern but it takes you back to that time.
Violet and James had such good chemistry, and I absolutely loved the banter, while also getting an inside look into both their heads while their quarrels were afoot.
However, as soon as James started flirting with Lady Fitzwilliam, I put the book down for a week. It felt so out of character for James (and I know that’s kind of the point of it happening) but I just do not like the insinuation of possible affairs. I’m glad Violet knew what was up, and I’m glad I picked it back up and pushed through that bit because I love how it ended. They grew together as a couple, and are going to be happier than ever!
