I loved almost every second of this book even at a time when I thought I was done with eurocentrism in fantasy novels. I should also say that I am not well versed in Arthurian legend so it felt somewhat like a new story for me. I enjoy the politicking and vying for the throne and I also find it trivial, but I think that’s what I liked about the book - it’s not always straightforward like or dislike. The religious bigotry was infuriating yet (some of) those characters were still understandable and relatable. I thought the book was a tad too long as I found myself getting a little bored towards the end. The writing is beautiful and the mystery of the goddess was intriguing. That being said I found there was an enjoyable cognitive dissonance of wanting the pagan/goddess/Avalon side to win but still seeing that they were doing terrible things in the name of their religion just like the Christians did.

Overall, terrific, engaging read. I kept picking it up night after night because I wanted to know what happened.
