I think this might just simply be an aspect of the fact that most Danmei was initially published as a webnovel, but one continuous feeling I have when reading them is that the plot is so outdrawn and doesn't directly seem to be going anywhere. If you're one for tightly-woven narratives, this won't be for you.
Personally, I've discovered that I like relationships the most when they're at least somewhat unhealthy. That's definitely the case in this one. I really enjoy the idea of one character being 'corrupted' by the other, though this novel does not go into the romance between characters very much. If what I read is true, this isn't a series with romance at the forefront in general, so I'm still debating whether I want to continue. I might check and see if they have it at the library.
This book might be for you if you enjoy descriptions of sparring and such, with a hint of romance and a developing relationship.
