Future Sex by Emily Witt

3.0

Good book, but a bit unfocused. The central theme - I think - is the nexus between sex and technology while also chronicling the author's experiences in this area. This becomes a mixed bag as the early chapters are about the author's specific experiences (attending a kink porn shoot, online dating), but then things switch to become less about the author's perspective (the polyamory essay is very little about the author) or about specific experiences (the chapter on birth control muses more on statistics and the general experience of being a modern woman in a culture that treats a monogamous nuclear family as "ideal").

These essays probably could have been published separately in various publications rather than compiled under this broad umbrella, as it sits uncomfortably between journalism and memoir. But the majority of them are good reads about sexual niches and how sexuality is evolving culturally.
