I gave the first book in this series (<i>In the Blink of an Eye</i>) 5 stars. I almost gave this one 5 stars too, but I docked a star because of the intrusive wokeness that had nothing to do with the main story. A transgender pathologist is fine, and I guess I will eventually get used to "they" as a singular pronoun, but I found it distracting and unnecessary. I also felt the last couple of chapters were included as a way for the author to "let me explain this to you in case you didn't get it the first time." I enjoyed this book a lot, and I will read the next one for sure, but I prefer my mysteries to be focused on plot and the facts of the case, rather than on thinly disguised social commentary.
