Lord of the Flies by William Golding

3.0

Only knowing the references of this book from The Simpsons I didn’t know how dark it was going to be. I’m probably not in the best state right now to read about “boys being boys” aka killing one boy in a circle with spears and pushing a rock into Piggy off a cliff. However, I am glad they didn’t eat Piggy (RIP) because I really thought they would.

The unreliable narrator is great because how much is imagined and how much has play time turned into savagery? Ironic that the posh prefect Jack had dictator vibes. Roger is a straight up psycho that was blood thirsty, not sure how he’ll go back into society with blood on his hands.

I am curious as to what the beast was (and if it was even real). I liked it but didn’t love it. Play time wasn’t for me.

Updating my review to 3.5 stars as the imagery of the last chapter really stuck with me. The vivid imagery of the intense last scene with the island a blaze followed by the juxtaposition of an adult entering and transforming the savages back into crying boys is *chefs kiss*.
