Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout

4.0

Fans of Lucy Barton (two prior works by ES, My Name is Lucy Barton and Anything is Possible, feature this complex character) will welcome her return. She’s now in her 60s, divorced from William, remarried (and widowed) and her daughters are grown. This is really a book of observations of life, love, longing, belonging, loneliness, hopes, dreams and the stories we tell ourselves in our heads. It’s also about how our pasts shape and haunt us, despite our best intentions. It sort of goes nowhere and everywhere all at once. If you like the style of the author, this book will not disappoint. My favorite of hers is probably Olive Kitteridge. Read this book in a day. No chapters, which makes it hard to know when to take a break!
