I really enjoyed reading a fantasy book set in Africa and inspired by folklore that I'm less familiar with. I thought the magic was cool, the gods interesting, and the overall world building pretty good. It was also a very easy read. I did think it slightly rushed things and info-dumped which I'm less of a fan of. I thought overall the pacing was also a little off, it felt like a lot of stop-starting, with loads going by very quickly followed by much calmer sections without a smooth rise and fall to the tension, it all felt a lot more random. I also wasn't a huge fan of the main character. How he is initially is interesting but I feel that as time went on he became more unlikeable in a way that wasn't really explored enough and didn't have the consequences it should have.
