Alan's War: The Memories of G.I. Alan Cope
by Emmanuel Guibert
A fascinating memoir, and not at all what I expected. If Dalton Trumbo taught us war is hell, and Joseph Heller taught us war is absurd, Emmanuel Guibert's graphic memoir seems to make the case that war is....largely irrelevant? Although WW II is the touchstone for Alan Cope's life story, it is hardly a "war story" is a classic sense. Perhaps that is the biggest take-home message to be found.
