Woman Last Seen in Her Thirties by Camille Pagán

3.0

A somewhat depressing look at midlife through the eyes of Maggie Half-Moon Harris, saved only by the fact that Maggie learns to be a very resilient and empowered woman by the end.

With two grown children and a mediocre job, Maggie's husband up and leaves her one day, declaring he's fallen in love with someone else. Maggie is in a tailspin but slowly takes control of her unwanted but newfound life. She goes to Rome by herself. She makes new friends. She gets a new job. She interacts with her children in new ways. She tries dating. She...responds to her ex-husband's desire to reconnect?! Through it all, Maggie learns about herself, puts on her big girl panties, and forges ahead with her life.

It wasn't my very favorite because it did paint a bit of a bleak picture for what love and marriage can be like in the late 40s/50s, and I don't want to believe that's true. But it did seem like a true account in Maggie's life. And I liked Maggie's growth through the story and the few minor characters who came along as well.
