Know My Name by Chanel Miller
5.0
What an immensely brave and harrowing memoir. I remember this trial and Chanel’s statement on BuzzFeed like it was yesterday. I remember the impact it had on me at the time, and her story is no less engaging in full.
I’ve had the unique perspective to have both been in similar situations as Chanel (I am a woman, after all) and a juror in a rape trial. Her memoir brought back a lot of feelings from both times in my life, and I resonated with her sense of helplessness and deep sadness. What inspired me most from this memoir is that we don’t have to be okay, there doesn’t have to be a light at the end of the tunnel where you’re 100% fixed but you can move forward and allow those experiences to be a part of you. She also says there’s more good than bad in the world, and I hold onto that.
Huge 5 stars!!!
