Really meaningful story. It could have benefited from more world building at the beginning. Shares themes with Moana and Encanto - if you enjoyed those films I think you’ll like this book. The artwork is awesome.

I’m not sure about the bit where
Mikasi says shapeshifting comes from a part of men ‘that wishes to fight, that longs to kill’ that witches don’t have. That seems to be sending a damaging message about masculinity, but perhaps I misread that bit? I thought his type of shapeshifter magic was different from the others in that it came from witch magic and was fuelled by a need to fit in.
