Defy the Night
by Brigid Kemmerer
It feels like I should have loved this, but somehow I couldn't get into it.
On one hand, the romance had an interesting twist to it, but because they were already in love with each other, I never got to actually *see* them fall in love. Instead, I'm thrown head-first into pining from a random dude I don't know and angry confusion from a random girl I don't know. I never felt invested.
On top of that, the politics felt naive and childish. Yeah, the king and prince started ruling from a young age, but I can't believe they would stand for the endless disrespect the "consuls" show them. The whole country acts like they're twelve.
As much as I'd like to see the king and his brother pull their country together, I won't be continuing this series.
